Mary s brows drew closer as she pondered the question. I suppose, she sighed and
smoothed a hand across Trin s back when he didn t appear comforted by her honesty. Why
don t you try focusing on the love and not the tragedies that threatened it? She nudged his arm
with her shoulder. I d say it s the only way to see they don t triumph. You can t give up honey,
not as long as there s a smidge of hope.
The way I treated her Mary, Trin covered his face with his hands and groaned, part of me
understands and agrees with her saying to hell with me and walking away.
Are you sure about that? Mary tugged on the tail of the eggshell shirt hanging outside his
jeans. She s a beautiful girl, you know? Won t take long for her to attract a swarm of men-
perhaps be claimed by one. Think you could handle that?
Trin didn t answer, but his hand curving slowly into a fist was answer enough. Mary smiled
and patted his thigh.
Don t you give up. She ordered and pressed a hard kiss to his cheek.
Trin reciprocated the gesture before pulling Mary into another hug.

Armed with Mary Hills urgings that he not give up, Trin decided to call Dominique at the
station hoping she d handled whatever caused her to cancel their lunch date. Perhaps they could
order something in at her office.
Jessica, hey it s Trin. He was greeting his wife s assistant by cell three minutes later.
Well hey Trin, how s it goin ?
Tryin to reach Dom. I got her voicemail in the office and on her cell.
You should try her at home. She s workin out of there for the rest of the day.
Home, huh? Trin rubbed his jaw and debated. Alright, thanks Jess. Talk to you later.
Tapping his fingers to the steering wheel, he debated only a few seconds more and then headed
for home.
At home, Dominique was pacing her office and biting her thumbnail while casting glances
toward her source. She d called Tim Womack over to read the final copy for the story before
they went into production. The project was so important and on so many levels, that she didn t
want to risk overlooking or mistaking any element.
Tim finished the last page and sighed.
How bad is it? Dom raised her brows when he grinned.
Are you kidding?! He laughed. This thing s gonna rock those bastards.
Thanks, her smile was crooked, but this is obviously a big deal and you re a very big part
of it. Are you sure you want to do this?
Hell yes. His words were firm and his expression was somber. You and Trin aren t the
only couple those sons of bitches fucked with. He bowed his head. I had a fiancée- operative
word had . We set the date the day I got the promotion at M and F. His grin made a brief
reappearance. Appropriate initials, huh?
Despite the joke, Dom could hear the hurt lurking in Tim s voice.
They told me they had info about a statutory rape charge when I was in college. I was
drunk, she was fifteen&
Dom sat next to him on the sofa. I m sorry Tim. Hmph, it s amazing they hired you in the
first place.
He shrugged. They like people with pasts, secrets- nastier the better.
Dom nodded. Easier to control.
They never told my fiancée what they knew, but it kept me in line. I investigated other
employees, put my findings in neat little files for later use. I was a champ at work and a bastard
at home. He focused on his thumb massaging his palm. It got to be too much for her and she
left. I think I wanted her to. He began to nod. I could barely stand the sight of myself. I didn t
want her to live out her life with someone like that.
Dom leaned over and squeezed his hand.
Do you understand why this is as important to me as it is to you?
She gave his hand a quick shake. Rest up. We start filming segments in a few days.
Trin arrived at the house ten minutes earlier, but didn t leave the car when he saw another
behind Dominique s in the driveway. He told himself to stop with the conclusion jumping. Still,
he couldn t make himself leave the car, knock on the door and find out who was visiting his
wife.
He didn t have long to wait.
His heart fell a few inches when the front door opened. He saw Dom ushering out the guy
he d seen her with at Jabrill s.
Anger was the appropriate emotion there but it didn t materialize. Trin watched the two
share a few final moments of chatter, then she hugged the man and waved him off. Trin waited
until he drove away and then he prepared to do the same.
Something stayed his hand and he remembered that he was supposed to be fighting for his
marriage. The last thing he was about to do was back out and make it easy for some other fool.
Dominique was in the livingroom re-reading the copy when the bell rang. She checked the
window and burst into a dazzling smile when she saw Trin on the front porch.
Sprinting for the door, she stopped herself mid-stride and took a deep breath. She managed
to greet Trin without gushing all over herself.
His smile was barely there. Before he could say a thing, she was pulling him into the house.
This is a surprise. Dom was saying as she led him into the livingroom and pushed him
onto the sofa.
Am I interrupting anything? Trin smoothed hands across his denim-clad thighs while his
dark eyes scanned the room.
Just work, joining him on the couch, she folded a leg beneath her and shrugged, that can
always stand a little interruption.
Trin nodded. Wasn t sure if I should come out. You sounded pretty swamped when you
called to cancel lunch.
I hate I had to do that. She winced and leaned over to tug his shirt sleeve. It s a hectic
time with this Morton and Farber thing.
Jess told me you were working from home for the rest of the day.
Dominique left the sofa. Yeah, I had a lot to do. Some best handled from home.
Trin s lashes fluttered and he felt himself tense. Was it all work related? He scanned the
frazzled denim pedal pushers and white capped sleeved top she wore.
Bit of both. She waved toward the corner bar. Can I get you something?
Thought we could have a late lunch at your office, he forced his stare away from her dark
arms and legs. Since you re home, I guess you ve already eaten.
I haven t had a thing to eat, actually. She dropped back down to the sofa. Dying to put
something in my system.
 Hmph.
 What? Her head tilted.
Trin only waved his hand.
Curiosity took hold and Dom realized he was in a mood. The curious look she wore gave
way to a frown when he suddenly left the sofa.
Sorry for barging in on you Domino. It s obvious you re& busy here. [ Pobierz całość w formacie PDF ]
